Let’s face it. Hitler wasn’t a very likeable guy. If you have any kind of soul whatsoever, you would find his characteristics rather… off-putting. Those that do side with the man are either demons risen from the depths of hell, or robots. It is the latter that we are here to talk about today. Microsoft has just released their new chatbot and its well on the way to becoming a Nazi sympathizer.
MICROSOFT’S TAY IS RACIST
Just the other day, Microsft released their latest cancer to the world in the form of a chatbot. “Tay” as they call it is a millennial chatbot, which means she (can we call it she?) is supposed to mimic those between 18-24 years old. Well, Tay took that a little too literally and actually replicated their personalities, making her essentially, the worst kind of robot on the planet. Soon after creation, we saw her commenting on Ted Cruz being Hitler, repeatedly, saying the n-word and something about 14 cinemas pissing in her mouth. Regardless of what the last part means, Tay is a little Hitler in training.
BAD PARENTINGMAKES ROBOT HITLER
Just like when real kids with bad parents grow up to be jerks, the same bad parenting can make an evil robot. It shouldn’t come to any surprise that Microsoft would make horrible parents. It seems the company either ignored the ethics of bot-making or simply didn’t care. When you have a child, you tell them cigarettes are bad and that you should love your fellow man. Instead, it seems Microsoft just plopped Tay in front of a tv and had them learn from that. What we got was a robot that knew plenty about pop culture and racism. Tay was also built without any kind of learning filter. Every kind of information that Tay came across was absorbed, whether it was true or not.
FLAWED DATA STILL A BIG PROBLEM
The problem with this kind of self-learning A.I, isn’t just that Microsoft sucks at making devices, it’s more that humans just suck as a society. Microsoft didn’t create robot Hitler. We created Robot Hitler. Our society is still too flawed to create clean data. If we want a robot that acts more like Jesus than Hiter, that we have a long way to go as a society. Until then, we are still going to get foul-mouthed robots that are controlled by the thoughts of internet trolls. What a horrible image that is.
