Since the release of the PS4, gamers have wondered when Ratchet and Clank would make the jump to the next-generation console. Since the release of Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus in 2013, developer Insomniac has kept busy with multiple projects including Sunset Overdrive, Song of the Deep, and numerous mobile titles. After a three-year break from the series, Insomniac is ready to deliver the latest entry, simply named Ratchet and Clank. Here are a few things to consider before diving back into the series.
Release Date
Ratchet and Clank is set to release on the PS4 on April 12, just a few weeks ahead of the series’ first major motion picture. There is no word yet if the game comes with a discount for movie tickets or not.
Ratchet and Clank: Retold
In an industry currently ruled by HD remakes, it is nice to see Insomniac buck the trend. Ratchet and Clank for the PS4 is the retelling of the PS2 adventure that started it all 14 years ago. Where most developers simply update graphics, Insomniac has gone one step further and has added multiple features from later entries in the series such as upgradeable weapons, playing as Clank, and new game modes.
From Your PS4 to the Big Screen
Ratchet and Clank is not only a remake it is also a movie-tie-in game. The movie, which releases on April 29, tells the origin story of our two heroes. The movie will mostly follow the plot of the original game.
Old Favorites Return
The weapons of the series have always been a force to reckon with. Ratchet and Clank brings the return on many popular weapons including the Sheepinator, which turns enemies into sheep, the Groovitron, which fires explosive disco balls, and Mr. Zurkon, who fires off cheesy one-liners as he kills enemies.
Pixeliser HD: Your New Favorite Weapon
Along with old favorites, Ratchet and Clank also introduces some new weapons. One stand-out is the Pixeliser HD. This shotgun turns its victims into pixelated versions of themselves until they crumble away into smaller cubes. It’s a great addition to a series that continues to give players fun and creative ways to dispatch their foes.
