Amazon Kindle News: New Device is better than Nook Clapway

In the latest Amazon Kindle News, their new ‘Oasis‘ device has leaked. The rest of the top of the line announcements should be coming sometime this week in the form of a Jeff Bezos grand reveal. The rumored features look to offer some stiff competition to the popular Nook.

AMAZON KINDLE HAS SOME EXCITING NEWS

Keep your eyes on Amazon this week. CEO Jeff Bezos is expected to make some exciting news regarding the Kindle. Thanks to a leak, we already have some of that news on the device. Apparently, it will be called the Kindle Oasis and immediately, you’ll notice a large groove on the right or left side, depending on how you want to hold it. While not the most attractive feature, it will make reading with one hand more comfortable. In addition to that, the large button will save your fingers from needing to touch the screen. This will give you free reign to dive into that plate of chicken wings without sacrificing the dignity of your Kindle.

OASIS GETS A SCREEN UPGRADE

Amazon has given the Kindle Oasis a 300ppi screen. This matches the Voyage in terms of sharpness, but there will be a 60 percent increase in the number of LEDs inside. This will make the backlighting that much more pronounced when reading in the dark, you know if that’s your thing. As far as news for specs, the Oasis will weigh 131 grams. Amazon says this is 20 percent lighter than past models. Also, it’s 3.4 limits will make it the thinnest of the bunch. If looks aren’t enough to sell you on the Oasis, it has a secret weapon. Thanks to the iPhone, it seems that we have a distorted view of how powerful batteries are. The Oasis will last a lot longer than 24 hours on a single charge. By a lot longer I mean up to 20 months of standby time. For the mathematically challenged, that’s almost two years folks. Ok, so the Oasis won’t be waterproof, but given the leaked facts so far, it certainly will give the Nook a run for its money.

FUTURE OF THE NOOK LOOKING GRIM

In other news, it looks like Amazon won’t need to fear competition for the Nook. Barnes and Noble killed off Nook app and video store last month as part of a digital retreat. Despite what Barnes and Noble says, this probably is not good. You may want to think twice about spending in the Nook store. If you have the tablet, getting content with Google Play will be your best bet. If not, it looks like you’d be better off spending your money on the new Oasis.
