According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, society has a dark future that’s not unlike a scene from “The Matrix”. At the moment, sharing information is innocent enough, but Zuckerberg claims it will not stop at sharing texts, photos, and videos. Here are 5 twisted future experiments we can expect to see.
1. FACEBOOK WILL ZAP INFORMATION INTO YOUR MIND
In the Matrix, any skill could be learned instantly by “zapping” them into the brain. While Facebook says they will not be doing this anytime soon, the technology is already in development. Apparently, scientists have already begun testing this with mice running through a maze. After having a mouse finish the maze, the knowledge was then “zapped” into another mouse. Having never seen the maze before, the second mouse was able to complete it on the first try.
2. BEAMING EMOTIONS
With Facebook, one is limited to sharing text, photos, and videos. In the future, Zuckerberg said social networks will be powered by telepathy. People will be able to beam their thoughts and emotions to their friends and family. Essentially this means the network will have access to our thoughts directly. Let’s just hope they use this power for good.
3. RESEARCHERS CAN PREDICT OUR THOUGHT
Another scary reality the Facebook CEO talked about was the ability for researchers to predict thoughts. The experiment is already underway at Berkeley University where scientists are unraveling the ability to read minds with a simple MRI scan.
4. EVERYONE WILL HAVE A ‘MINDBOOK’
Forget about Facebook, in the future, everyone will have a “Mindbook” to share. By having access to all of our thoughts and emotions, our mental makeup will be organized into a book of sorts that anyone can read. Zuckerberg claims he will do this within the realm of ethics but that remains to be seen.
5. ZERO PRIVACY
Eliminating privacy is not a goal of Zuckerberg’s but it will be a result if he follows through with his plan. He may operate within the realms of ethics but one can’t exactly read thoughts without first breaching privacy. Even if a contract first needs to be signed, people will be opening themselves up to this technology and forfeiting a basic human right. It will take years for this to become a reality, but it’s fair to say the future may be frightening.
