India’s leading SUV maker, Mahindra & Mahindra, recently revealed the newest addition to its impressive line-up of sport utility vehicles. Named “The Thar CRDE Adventure Edition”, this SUV is a limited edition variant of an already popular vehicle, The Thar. Unfortunately, according to Mahindra & Mahindra’s official Facebook page, only 30 exclusive units of the vehicle will be produced and sold in select dealerships only.
The original Thar is vastly popular amongst generations of adventure enthusiasts and even war-veterans because of its powerful engine and drive by wire technology, which is allows the vehicle to travel at various speeds and acceleration. But the Thar also excels at handling – it’s light & responsive Integral power steering makes the SUV remarkably maneuverable.
Mechanically, The Thar CRDE Adventure Edition remains unchanged. It features the same 2.5-litre CRDe turbo diesel unit that is capable of producing a power output of 103bhp and 246Nm of torque, and is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. A Borg Warner four-wheel drive transfer system and 200mm ground clearance also make this vehicle ideal for tackling any sort of terrain, whether on or off-road.
But that’s where the similarities end. The Thar CRDE Adventure Edition boasts additional equipment both inside and out, unlike its older counterpart.
To fit the theme of adventure, the vehicle comes in a stylish shade of Java brown, and is decorated with a new body wrap, featuring a 2D map & compass design. It also yields a headlamp, tail lamp protector, wheel arch extensions and a chaff screen designed for extreme survival missions.
Likewise, the interior cabin is just as spruced up, with new black seat covers contrasted by orange stitching. Moulded floor mats and a center console with harness points make the vehicle easily adaptable, but also simultaneously function.
With over 60 years in the making, both the Thar and the Adventure Edition, are extensions of Mahindra’s legacy – connecting Mahindra’s past and future by “paying homage to history and pushing forward the boundaries of modern technology.”
Currently, the regular model retails for Rs. 7.37 lakh. The updated version is speculated to be priced at around Rs. 30,000 to 40,000 more.
