Sometimes the right gear can make or break your outdoor adventure. Wheeling around luggage full of clothes, for example, is both exhausting and irritating. I realized this especially after traveling to Italy – when I had to lug my suitcase up several exhaustive flights of stairs. My back still holds one against me.
That’s why I decided to invest in the Kelty ® Redstone 60L Frame Pack – a travel backpack that is great for overnight camping trips and longer expeditions in foreign countries. The convenient bag can carry up to 61L (or 3-5 days) worth of clothing and gear, and also possesses a sleeping bag compartment. Once the shoulder and sternum straps are adjusted, the pack is very comfortable – even contouring to your frame.
This was extremely important for me, especially since I enjoy longer day trips. While in Italy, I frequently found myself on the run – trying to either catch a train or flight. With a standard luggage case, the wheels made it difficult to navigate from one location to the other. The occasional curb, for example, or even a small bump in the road would often slow me down. Unfortunately, I’ve missed a few train rides (and a lot of money) because of this.
That’s why the Kelty is my new go-to carry around. Other travel backpacks go for upwards of $200.00, but the Kelty currently sells for $70.00. At first, I was a bit weary about this price difference. Certainly, a cheaper bag wouldn’t perform nearly as well. Regardless, I decided to take a gamble – in part because my suitcase was on its last legs (or wheels).
Fortunately, to my surprise, my purchase was well worth the investment. Perhaps the only thing that I could complain about is its lack of pockets. Although I definitely appreciated the zippered compartments on the hip belt, the backpack could benefit from extra exterior pouches for wallets, keys or any other small knickknacks.
Otherwise, if you’re looking for a durable, comfortable and functional travel backpack, the Kelty is the way to go. Not only is it easy to use, it’s affordable, and that’s always a welcomed factor.
