Running a 5k might not sound like the most appealing event to go to. If you’re also as out of shape as I am, it may even sound like a joke – what is that, like 3 miles? Ha.

Strangely enough, however, despite my hatred of cardio (eek!) and exercise in general, I found myself eagerly waiting online to purchase the VIP tickets for this year’s Color Run, also referred to as “the Happiest 5k on the Planet”. With a slogan like that, how can you not be curious?
The Color Run, an event that began in March of 2011, was originally a way of promoting a healthy and happy lifestyle. Every year, huge groups of people travel to various destinations around the world to participate in the adventure, which has amassed a huge fan base over the years. It has quickly become the largest event series in the United Sates, having been hosted in over 30 countries in 2013.
The race itself is untimed, and participants all wear white at the starting line. The white is necessary because while running, participants will be doused from head to toe in colored powder. By the end of the race, you can expect to be a walking, talking work of art. But that’s not all. The adventure continues once you reach the finish line, where an unforgettable Finish Festival (equipped with a lot of music, crazy dancing and more color explosions) takes place. Everywhere you turn, you can expect to see vibrant mixes of colors colliding in the air.
This year, Color Run’s 2014 Kaleidoscope Tour will travel to over 130 locations just in the United States alone– popping up in various cities along the east coast all the way to the west coast (keep an eye out for dates). Participants will also receive a limited edition participant race kit with a custom Kaleidoscope t-shirt, tricolor headband, cross body bag, tattoos and more!
So if you’re looking for an adventure or just for a way to burn some time and some calories, try participating in the Color Run. You’ll forget you actually ran to reach the finish line.
