Man has a desire to explore and that desire to conquer the unknown will never be satiated. Now, Journey to Space, a film tribute to deep-space exploration, will also take its viewers on this “journey that will never end.”
Journey to Space is a showcase of the behind the scenes efforts of NASA and the science community to land a man on Mars. K2 Film CEO, Bob Kresser states, “No longer science fiction, a human mission to Mars is in the planning stages, and major steps are being taken to make it a reality within a generation. Our goal in making this film was to tie together the actual hardware being built with the tremendous planning under way that will make the next steps in space exploration the most far-reaching in our history.”
Soon, people will know the names of the new machines that will be utilized on this journey on Mars, some of which are below:
1. “Orion,” is a spacecraft designed to look like its predecessor, Apollo, which will enable man to reach asteroids and even the Red Planet itself. With faster computers and far advanced technology, the Orion hopes to leave a footprint on Mars.
2. “Olympus” is an inflatable habitat with a huge interior volume of 2,250 cubic meters to carry a crew of 24 or more. Designed to be like a hangar in space, Olympus or BA 330, could provide shelter and work space for the astronauts during missions.
3. Space Launch System, also known as “SLS,” is a massive rocket designed to carry astronauts to an asteroid and the Red Planet. SLS is a heavy-launch lift vehicle, intended to provide a safe, affordable, and sustainable mode of transporting Olympus, cargo, science equipment, and science experiments to reach further into space. The SLS will be the most powerful rocket to exist.
The beginning one-third of the film commends the Space Shuttle program, as well as the 355 astronauts that were on the 135 Shuttle missions. It shows how the Shuttle paved the way for future missions, cited in the film, by enabling us to understand how life is in space and how to manage beyond Earth orbit. It also features the final major accomplishment of the Shuttle, which is the International Space Station. ISS provides a home and a science laboratory in space.
