Facebook Set to Bring Daily Flashbacks to Users
Get ready, Facebook is about to change once again. This time though, it is going to be adding a new feature which reminds users what they were doing on this day last year (or any year) in the past. In other words, just in case you forgot about the anniversary of your epic journey to Thailand, Facebook will be sure to remind you exactly what you were doing and posting about on this day at any point in your Facebook membership.
It’s kind of like Timehop for Facebook. You might see a photo taken with a couple college roomies, or a check-in at a specific movie you saw three years ago. Remember that cool sunset photo you took with your awful Iphone camera 6 years ago? Facebook does, so be prepared to see it one more time in all of its 3 megapixel glory.
This new feature, appropriately dubbed “On This Day” will begin rolling out immediately and you can expect to see it on your newsfeed within a week. There are various ways to access the feature, including on mobile devices where one can simply opt to receive On This Day push notifications. Regardless of what platform one uses to access Facebook, you’ll need to login to your account and turn the feature on if you want to see it. Once you have the feature, some posts will show on your newsfeed, or you can visit facebook.com/onthisday to see more historical posts linked to that specific day.
On This Day appears to be Facebook’s attempt to appeal to the Throw Back Thursday crowd. It’s bound to dig up some cool memories and photos of you and your friends, but it might also uncover some dirt that you’d rather stay buried and forgotten. Don’t fret, because apparently it will be very easy to delete any posts that resurface which are not to your liking. Additionally, the content is for your eyes only – it’s up to each user whether they want to share their newsfeed nostalgia with the rest of the digital world.
What are your opinions on this feature? Is Facebook going too far?
