Disney World New Venue May Serve Booze

Disney World, wonderland vacation venue of choice for many, made headlines today as officials have announced a potential new addition to the park. The new eatery adorned with jungle themed décor. The new addition seems to be pitched towards adults with promises of booze fueled family fun. “Grab the kids! We’re going to Disney World!”

The new restaurant, tentatively called “Skipper’s Cantina,” will be located by the Jungle Cruise ride. The eatery might be used as a continuation to the ride, with talks of boat operators acting as servers on the side.

Skipper’s Cantina will likely feature lunch and table service for dinner, similar to the “Beauty and the Beast” themed, Be Our Guest Tavern. Be Our Guest Tavern is the only place in the park that currently serves alcohol, so many are wondering (or hoping) that Skipper’s will also be serving drinks to park patrons. Disney has already filed for a new permit confirming the addition for the space, which was previously occupied by Adventureland Veranda.

Adventureland Veranda” restaurant opened in the park in October 1971, so some renovations were definitely overdue. Despite widespread menu changes and famous soy sauce brand, Kikkoman at times, being a corporate sponsor, the somewhat older park venue was still used for many things, including park character meet and greets, and treat stations for the Magic Kingdom’s party events. Most recently it was used as a home for famed fairy TinkerBell and her fairy friends before they would fly over to the Town Square. After 21 years of not being a hodgepodge of park happenings, the area will finally return to serving food as “Skipper’s Cantina.”

Skipper’s back-story revolves around Jungle Cruise skippers being paid poorly by the Jungle Navigation Company (or Disney as they admitted sheepishly on their blog) and needing to operate a restaurant to make some extra money.

The attraction would be significant as it would be the first restaurant at a domestic Disney World Park inspired by an original Disney attraction and not an animated or live action film.

Though there is no official word on Disney’s blog or relevant forums about the park restaurant offering booze like the Be Our Guest Tavern it is still highly speculated by Disney enthusiasts offering Adults in the park another place to explore the Disney Magic while under the influence. No word yet on what the menu will look like.
