There is a problem that has been rising over the past decade or so and has afflicted many of us today. It is the problem of a lost cell phone. Whether it happens at home, or when travelling, losing a cell phone is almost a ‘certain doom’ situation in today’s society, because many of us carry around our whole lives on the device. Google has found a great solution to find your lost phone with GPS, as seen on their Android Device Manager website.
The Problem of the Lost Phone
When we think of using our phones, there is so much that we can now do with these handheld devices that it is astonishing. Gone are the days when we simply used them to call family or friends. While many of us still do make phone calls regularly from our cell phones, we can now text, send messages via social media and even share our lives through great services such as Skype and Whatsapp. These great apps allow us to connect to the people we care about with great ease, from posting photos of events, to having reminders and calendars on our phones, so we may as well have our whole lives connected to these devices.
When someone loses their phone in today’s society, it can definitely mean panic for that person and for the people who need to reach that person. In the past, it meant having to go and buy a new one, and then proceed to replace all of the contacts and information as best as we could from memory what was lost. Thankfully, Google has a much simpler solution — find your lost phone with GPS.
Google’s Android Device Manager
In order to find your lost phone with GPS, you simply need to type in the words “find my phone,” in Google search and you will instantly know the location of your phone. This is possible through Google’s revolutionary Android Device Manager Software. If your phone has been stolen, or you can’t seem to find it, you can call your phone, or remotely lock it and erase any personal information that you don’t want someone else to see.
The way that you are able to find your lost phone with GPS, as seen with their Google App, is by linking your Gmail account from your computer to your phone and using this information combined with your phone’s GPS locator to show where your phone is. The catch with all of this is that, of course, you need to have the most updated version of the Google app and your phone needs to be turned on with GPS enabled.
Issues with the System
The fact that much of this system relies on your phone being on and running can be problematic if it’s been a little while since you initially lost it or if it was almost completely dead when you lost it. Google is continually working on improving their system, but this is a great step in the right direction to help you find your lost Android phone as it provides a free service for people who truly do need their cell phones or have lost their precious devices while traveling. It can definitely provide peace of mind in a very stressful situation.
