Pokemon’s newest competitor, Yo-Kai watch, has been launched for North America. The game got a quick surge of popularity because of its similarities to Pokemon, the game will become available for the Nintendo 3DS in the North American region.
Yo-Kai Watch is an anime style video game that follows the story of a boy called Nate from the fictitious town of Springdale. He sets free Yo-kai Whisper from a vending machine and sets off to find other Yo-kai from the surrounding region. There are about 200 Yo-Kai in this installment, much like the initial 150 Pokemon in the original series.
While there are many similarities between Yo-kai Watch and Pokemon, there are stark differences. No battles, firstly. Players can choose to engage in Yo-kai sparring and they can choose to walk away, and this game is designed with side quests for extra experience points. While Pokemon trainers catch Pokemon, Yo-kai trainers befriend other Yo-kai. In battles Yo-Kai choose attacks automatically, and trainers only choose special attacks and items.
This game is one more to subtly include violence in daily gaming life, so parents should be aware. So the differences are stark, Yo-Kai is more about the experience than active gameplay than about sparring. Since the series is new it will bring immersive anime experiences to American teens and young adults.
