Brazil is On A Mission to Fight Global Warming
New technology out of Brazi has set its mind to fight global warming by combining the technology that goes into integrated grain and meat production and forestry. Brazil produces close to 200 million tons of gran every year, and they are also the #1 meat producer in the world.
By combining these forces, EMBRAPA is hoping to bring a technology that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fight global warming.
The Plan: Mixing Planting of Grain and Cattle Pasture
The ideal strategy to fight global warming would start by growing a plant called Brachiaria brizanthia, which is used to promote the soil quality for soybean and corn crops. These crops circulate throughout the years, and using this plant as a base would help optimize its condition. This system would be in place between 1 and 3 years, and after that, the crops can be reused as cattle fields. The degraded pasture in the soil would end up producing twice as methane in this system.
Reducing Deforestation to Fight Global Warming
The next step would be to recover the pasture, which would allow for more cattle in the area. This could also help reduce CO2 emissions for the grain crops, because shrubs such as Eucalyptus can spring from the pasture. Eucalyptus is able to absorb CO2, and if this plan is well executed, Brazil will not only be the top producer of feed and food in the world, but will also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce deforestation.
